Why I love this recipe
I LOVE fresh strawberries. This three ingredient dessert is a super easy way to keep the flavor of the strawberries in a delicious hot dessert. And, of course, anything with ice cream on top is extra delicious, especially in the summer!
During strawberry season, I always have extra strawberries and am looking for uses for them. This is a great way to use them. The recipe takes less than 10 minutes to assemble, most of which is slicing the strawberries. With a 30-minute bake time, you will have a wonderful dessert on the table in less than 40 minutes.
Ingredients
Yellow Cake mix - I like using Betty Crocker or Dunkin Hines cake mixes. Stock up when they are on sale!
½ cup of salted butter, melted - that's one stick of the 4 stick two cup box of butter.
2 quarts - that's two of the larger retail packages of fresh strawberries (not Costco size!). Love my fresh strawberries! Each container has 16 oz of berries. Cut these up in slices then cut the slices in ½. Cut up, these make almost 5 cups.
Substitutions
If you have a different brand of cake mix, go ahead and use it. You know I'm all about using what you have!
As far as the fresh strawberries, go ahead and substitute frozen if it's already at home or the price is good. I would NOT recommend canned strawberry pie filling. I bought some to test it and I'm not a fan. It looks good as you can see from the picture below.
There is something about the taste that I didn't enjoy. And I'm not someone to speak negatively about canned fruits. Some of the recipes pictured below use canned fruits and are delicious! My favorite canned fruit is still fruit cocktail (my brother and I used to fight for the cherries). Of course I made a fruit cocktail dump cake with this nostalgic canned fruit!

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Step 1
Cut strawberries by slicing and then cut them in half. Large strawberries may need to be cut again. I like my cut-up strawberries to be roughly the same size.
Step 2
Melt the butter in a microwave medium-sized bowl. Mix cake mix into melted butter. I use a large fork. Set aside.
The final texture will be a crumble-like texture (it's not a batter).
Step 3
Spread a layer of strawberries onto the bottom of the sprayed 11 x 13 baking dish.
Spread a thin layer of the cake & butter mix evenly on top of the strawberries. Do not stir!
Step 4
Place in a preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. The topping should be a light brown, and the fruit should be bubbly and peek through the crumble mixture.
Serving tip
Vanilla ice cream is so delicious on top of this easy strawberry cobbler!
Storage
This three-ingredient dump cake can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Cool it, and then cover the dish.
I would not recommend freezing.
FAQ's
No, just use the cake mix, butter, and fresh strawberries.
It depends on what part of the country you are from. These fruit and cake mix recipes are known as cobblers or as dump cakes in different areas. I use the names they are most recognized as near near me.
If you have them, add them! I make this with between 5-6 cups of cutup strawberries. I would say you could comfortably use up to 10 cups. Make sure your baking dish is big enough, and add to the baking time. Make sure the top crust doesn't get overcooked.
