Why I love this recipe!
Some days you have an apple pie craving but don't have the time to make one from scratch. These have all the flavor at a fraction of the time or the work!
Only uses 5 ingredients, if you count the optional pecans. The nuts add to the flavor and the texture but I do understand not everyone is a fan of nuts.
From start to finish, this recipe takes less than 30 minutes!
Ingredients
- Pillsbury original crescent rolls
- Brown sugar - packed
- Apple pie spice (you can substitute pumpkin pie spice or even just plain cinnamon)
- Chopped Pecans
- Granny Smith Apple - or any baking apple will work
- Salted butter - you can also use unsalted butter if you have it.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 F.
Step 1
Mix brown sugar and apple pie spice (set aside a small amount of spice to sprinkle on top of rolled bites before baking) and set aside. Chop optional pecans into small chunks.
Step 2
Unroll crescent rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and separate them into 8 triangles.
Step 3
Spread brown sugar and spice mixture on each triangle. Spread optional pecans on triangles. I usually have some of the sugar mixture left over.
Step 4
Cut apples into 8 (½ inch) slices. I use my apple slicer, which gives me 2 extra slices (a little snack for me).
Place sliced apples in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 2-3 minutes. If you don't microwave the apples, they are a little crunchy in the finished dessert. If you enjoy firmer apples in apple desserts, skip the microwaving step.
Step 5
Melt butter and toss apple slices into warmed butter. When apple slices are covered in butter, place the apple slice on the wider edge of the crescent roll dough. Roll up the apple. The dough does not need to enclose the apple slice fully.
Step 6
Brush rolls with butter and lightly sprinkle pie bites with reserved apple pie spice.
Step 7
Bake for 10 - 12 minutes until golden brown. Cool for a few minutes before serving.
Vanilla ice cream or whipped topping takes this dessert to the next level of deliciousness.
Storage
These store well on the counter in a sealed container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the microwave for 30-45 seconds.
FAQs
I have also used honeycrisp, fuji and gala apples. However, I don't think you can go wrong with any apple!
I think your apple bites would be delicious! My only suggestion would be to use a little less of the sugar and apple pie seasoning mixture since the cinnamon rolls already have sugar and cinnamon.
