This easy tomato and kielbasa salad is fresh, tangy, and packed with flavor. Juicy tomatoes pair perfectly with smoky sausage and a splash of vinegar for a quick, hearty dish that’s ready in minutes. It’s the kind of simple summer recipe that uses ingredients you already have - ripe tomatoes, a bit of kielbasa from the fridge, and everyday pantry seasonings - to create something that tastes like you spent all afternoon making it. This was a family favorite when tomatoes in the garden were ripe and we needed to be eaten.

    Why I Love This Recipe

It delivers bold flavour in under 10 minutes and uses minimal ingredients for maximum impact.
It makes the best use of ripe garden-fresh tomato while the season is at its peak.
It transforms humble turkey kielbasa into a satisfying salad that’s both light and hearty.
It comes together in a single bowl—perfect for a no-fuss lunch or a quick dinner.

    Ingredients

This recipe is simple and satisfying with just a handful of ingredients.

    Tomato and Kielbasa salad

1 medium or large size tomato
    3 oz Turkey Kielbasa
Salt, pepper and vinegar, to taste.
    Onions or onion powder (optional)

    Instructions

    Step 1
Cut the tomato into bite sized pieces. If you used salt on the tomato, let it sit for a minute to draw out some juice, then drain off excess liquid.

    Step 2
Add chopped onions now, if using. Season the tomato (and onions) generously with salt and pepper; let the mixture sit while you prepare the sausage.

    Step 3
Cut the kielbasa into “coin” slices. Quickly pan-fry the slices until heated through and lightly browned. Allow them to cool slightly.

    Step 4
Toss the warm kielbasa coins into the tomato (and onion) mixture. Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar over everything, stir gently to combine. Serve immediately (or let it sit a minute for flavours to marry).

A small piece of rye bread with a little bit of butter makes this the perfect lunch!

    FAQ’s

Can I make tomato and kielbasa salad ahead of time?

You can prep the ingredients ahead, but it tastes best freshly tossed. If you make it early, keep the tomatoes and sausage separate until ready to serve so the salad doesn’t get watery.

What kind of sausage works best for this recipe?

Turkey kielbasa keeps it light, but you can use any smoked sausage or Polish kielbasa you have on hand. A quick pan-fry brings out the smoky flavor and adds a little caramelization.

Can I use cherry tomatoes instead of a large tomato?

Absolutely. Cherry or grape tomatoes work perfectly—just cut them in half so they release a bit of juice to mix with the vinegar and seasonings.

    Ingredients

    • 2 medium tomatoes
    • 6 oz Turkey Kielbasa
    • Salt pepper and vinegar, to taste.
    • Onions optional

    Instructions

    • Slice tomato into bite sized pieces.  Garden grown are the best!
    • Add onions, cut into small slices
    • Salt and pepper it generously.  Let it sit for a few minutes
    • Drain the tomato.  The salt will draw a lot of the juice out.
    • Add about 2 - 3 tablespoon of vinegar.   Plain vinegar or your favorite balsamic vinegar, your choice.
    • Cut a 3 inch (approx 3 oz) piece of kielbasa into coins
    • Take the Kielbasa and quickly pan fry to heat it up.
    • Let kielbasa cool then toss with tomatoes.

    Notes

Use garden-fresh tomatoes for the best flavor - this salad really shines when tomatoes are ripe and juicy. Turkey kielbasa keeps it lighter, but any smoked sausage works well. Add a few thin onion slices for a bit of bite, or skip them if you prefer it milder. The vinegar dressing balances the smoky and sweet flavors beautifully, making this simple salad surprisingly crave-worthy.
