Craving peach cobbler but short on time? This unbelievably easy 3-ingredient recipe uses yellow cake mix to create a delicious cobbler in minutes. It's perfect for busy weeknights or budget-friendly gatherings—ditch the fuss and enjoy a taste of summer!
This easy peach cobbler cake needs just three ingredients! Yellow cake mix, a large can of peaches, and a stick of butter, that's it! I've been told this is a dump recipe in some parts of the country. Whatever you call it, this three-ingredient peach dump cake is good!
If you like these types of easy three ingredient cobbler recipes, you should try this easy blackberry dump cake, this easy strawberry dump cake (using fresh strawberries), or this simple apple pie dump cake. It has all the flavor with a fraction of the work thanks to the canned apple pie filling.
Why I love this recipe
So Easy: Just 3 ingredients - peaches, cake mix, and butter - for a cobbler that practically makes itself! You don't even have to stir.
Yellow Cake Mix from your pantry: The cake mix transforms into a golden, buttery crumble topping that has great texture and flavor.
Peaches any time of year: Juicy canned peaches and their sweet syrup create a delicious filling that's bursting with summer flavor.
Fast and Fabulous: From prep to oven, this recipe comes together in minutes for a dessert that won't leave you waiting.
Budget-Friendly Bliss: No fancy ingredients needed, just pure, delicious affordability.
Ingredients
These are simple, inexpensive ingredients that you may already have at home!
- Yellow Cake Mix - I like using Betty Crocker but if you have a favorite brand, go ahead and use it. This recipe is made with a cake mix that contains 15.25 oz.
- Large can of sliced peaches - I try to buy the ones in juice rather than syrup. But, use what you have or buy what you like.
- One Stick of Butter - Traditionally, unsalted butter is used when baking. However, I normally have salted butter at home, so that's what I use.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
Step 1
Dump a can of peaches into the casserole dish. I cut a few of the thicker ones in half. But you don't have to - keep it easy!
Step 2
Pour the dry cake mix evenly on top of the peaches. Smooth it gently with a knife (or a spoon, or a fork, or your fingers....) DON'T MIX IT. It should be like the picture below.
Step 3
Slice the butter into thin slices and then spread it evenly on the cake mix.
Butter Slicing Hint - Slice butter when cold and slice the thinest pieces you can to get the most coverage. It's OK if not every piece of butter is perfect, some of mine are pieced together.
Step 4
You are finished with your prep! Now put it in the oven to bake for 30-40 minutes. You want it to be bubbly and the crust to be a golden brown. It smells so good!
Serving Suggestions
Allow to cool for 10 minutes. Then scoop portions with a large spoon. My family and friends enjoy having a scoop of vanilla ice cream on their peach cobbler.
Storage
This refrigerates well for up to 4 days as long as it is in a covered container or the dish it is baked in is covered.
It may be frozen for up to 3 months if well wrapped. However, since this is such a quick and easy recipe, I would recommend making it the day you need it and if you have extra, invite some friends over!

Three Ingredient Peach Cobbler - so easy!
Equipment
- 13 x 9 baking dish
Ingredients
- 1 box Yellow cake mix I use Betty Crocker but use what you have.
- 1 can Peaches Large 29 oz size, I use the ones with juice but you can use the ones with syrop.
- ½ cup butter 1 cold stick butter sliced very thinly. (½ cup)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit.
- I use nonstick spray on my casserole dish because it makes cleaning it later easier. And the whole point of this recipe is to keep it easy.
- Dump can of peaches into the casserole dish. With every delicious drop of juice! I cut a few of the thicker ones in half but you don’t have to.
- Pour the dry cake mix on top. Straight from the box! Smooth it gently with a knife (or a spoon, or a fork or your fingers….) DON’T MIX IT. Yes, it is dry and powdery on top of the peaches but when baked, the butter on top fixes that!
- Cut the butter into thin slices (easier if butter is cold) and then spread it evenly on the cake mix.
- You are done your prep.! Now put it in the oven for 30-40 minutes. You want it to be bubbly and the crust to be a golden brown. And it smells sooooo good!
- Let it sit 10 minutes, then serve with vanilla ice cream.

You don't mention the size of the pan at all. I'm guessing it's 9x13, then again, could be 9x8 or 8x8. You just say My Casserole Dish. That can mean anything. Always remember, cooking is an art, but baking is a SCIENCE.

Thank you for letting me know I didn't mention the size. I'll go right into the post and correct that. It is a 9 x 13 pan.

I like a lot of peaches. I used 3 cans of peaches. I added vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, allspice & nutmeg. I should have thicken the heavy syrup. Taste ok for a lazy way of making a peach cobbler.
momcrieff
Glad you enjoyed the peach cobbler! Thanks for sharing the recipe with your readers!! It is so easy and I keep the ingredients on hand so I can make this last minute.

can I use a pie crust on top instead of the cake?
momcrieff
I think that would work just fine! You probably need to bake it according to the pie crust directions.

What temp did you set the oven to? This looks amazing!!! Super simple for a college girl to make!
momcrieff

I wonder if it will work with a gluten free cake mix?
momcrieff
I have not done that but would think it's worth a try. If you do try making this with a gluten free cake mix, please let us know how it turned out!
Sal Shearer (@TuffGirl)
This looks so good! Does it have to be butter, though? Could I just put a dollops of margarine over it all?
momcrieff
I have never made it with margarine but I think it would work. Just make sure to use the stick margarine (like you would bake with).

So I did try it with the peaches pie filing, turned out great!
momcrieff
Thank you for letting us know! Hmmmm, so many pie fillings to try out now!!
Beth
Sooo I didn't have peaches in the juice but I had peaches pie filling, would that be ok?
momcrieff
Not 100% sure BUT, I think there is a good chance it would work. It's pretty low risk to try though. If you do, please let us know if it works out!

Here in my part of the USA we always called this kind of cake a "Dump" cake. 🙂 Easy because you just dump in your ingredients, shake it around a little bit, "patty cake" the top and it's near done! Make all kinds with different fruits AND different box cake flavors, too! How about cherries with a chocolate brownie mix? YUM!!
momcrieff
Thanks for your comments. I will have to try the cherry and brownie mix suggestion. Sounds really good!

Looks delicious! And I like how you put small pats of butter on top instead of melting it and trying to pour it evenly. Genius.
Marge
Would this work with fresh peaches that have been frozen? Looks yummy!
Sue
Made this and it was delicious! Was gone in 2 days! Thanks so much for the great recipes.
