These easy pigs in a blanket are made with just two ingredients: Lil Smokies and crescent roll dough! They’re a classic appetizer everyone loves – whether you’re hosting a summer barbecue, bringing a dish to a potluck, or need a kid-friendly snack. With minimal prep and big flavor, these mini crescent dogs are one of the easiest appetizers you'll ever make.

What are Pigs in a Blanket?

They are a really easy snack/appetizer made with little hot dogs (I buy Lil Smokies) wrapped in Crescent Roll dough. These mini crescent dogs are very popular with kids because they are an easy snack to grab and most kids love hot dogs! Everyone loves eating them because they are essentially preassembled mini hot dogs. Just dip in your choice of ketchup and mustard and you are ready to enjoy! I also have a recipe for full-sized hot dogs and crescent rolls for you! Plus, due to popular request, I've made an air fryer pigs in a blanket recipe too.

You'll love these finger foods for parties!

This recipe is so easy—just two ingredients! It’s one of those go-to appetizers I can prep quickly and count on everyone to love.

These mini crescent dogs are perfect for game day parties, potlucks, or casual family nights. I especially love how kid-friendly they are. You’d think they were made for kids, but the adults always polish them off before the little ones even get a chance!

With how simple and satisfying these Lil Smokies appetizers are, it’s no wonder they’re one of my most requested snacks to bring to gatherings.

    Ingredients

Yes, this is all you need to make these 2 ingredient Pigs in a Blanket!

2 ingredients for pigs in a blanket are lil Smokies and crescent rolls. Image on lil smokies showed baked mini hotdogs.

Package of Lil Smokies (mini hot dogs - usually found near the hotdogs in the grocery store)
Tube of Crescent Rolls (I have tried generic crescent rolls, and they work fine!)

    Instructions

    Preheat oven to 375°F

    Step 1
Dry the lil Smokies with a paper towel. They tend to be in some liquid in the package. If they aren't dry, the crescent rolls don't stick well.

    Step 2
    Unroll the Crescent Roll dough
Cut long triangles. Some will be different sizes or shapes, but that's ok. Just make sure you have enough to go around the mini hot dogs a couple of times.
Wrap the little weiners, starting with the wide side of the triangle.

Cut strips of crescent roll dough, rolled around mini hotdogs to make pigs in a blanket.

    Repeat ... many times!
Using your non-stick liner (Silpat or similar) is a good idea for these! Parchment paper is a good alternative.

    Step 3
Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, watching carefully for when they are nicely browned.

Tips for Perfect Pigs in a Blanket

    • Dry the Lil Smokies before wrapping—this helps the crescent roll dough stick better and bake up golden and flaky.
    • Cut crescent triangles evenly so the hot dogs wrap neatly and bake at the same rate.
    • Use parchment or a silicone liner to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
    • Serve warm with dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, or honey mustard for a more “gourmet” twist. My kids love ranch dressing! These really are the ultimate easy game day snack!
    • Double the batch—trust me, they disappear fast. See tips below for doubling.

    Can you double the recipe?

    pigs in a blanket

Yes! And you should. I usually do. And, I never bring any back home. Normally, I serve them in a big warm casserole dish. But lately, I've put them on a tray so it's easier for people to grab a couple without touching the others. You can also put toothpicks in each so people can serve themselves that way. Makes them look more fancy too!

    Serving Tip

When you bring these to a get-together, be kind to the host and bring some ketchup and mustard, too! My kids also liked dipping into Ranch Dressing and BBQ sauce. Some kiddos really like their condiments with these. Other kids just like to grab a couple and are munching on them as they join their friends.

FAQs and Tips for the Best Mini Crescent Dogs

Can I make these a little more gourmet?

Up your dipping sauces! Use dijon mustard, a honey mustard sauce or your favorite BBQ sauce. Adults love these too!
Do you have everything bagel seasoning at home? Befor baking brush tops lightly with an egg wash and sprinkle with seasoning for extra flavor.

Can I use a different sausage?

Technically, yes you can. But you will have to adjust the cooking time. Also, most sausages are much larger. If you'd like to experiment, breakfast sausages cut in ½ would be delicious served as a breakfast side!

    Keep the dough cold.

Warm dough is harder to handle and can tear. Work in small batches if needed.

Can you make these with full sized hot dogs?

I've done the work so you don't need to do any adjustments. I have a recipe for full-sized hot dogs and crescent rolls for you!

    Storage and Reheating Tips

These mini hot dog crescent rolls are best served fresh from the oven, but they do store and reheat well if you have leftovers.

    How To Store

Once the pigs in a blanket have cooled to room temperature, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll stay fresh for about 3 days.

    How to Reheat

To bring back that just-baked crispness, skip the microwave and use one of these methods:

Air Fryer: Reheat at 325°F for 3–5 minutes. This method brings back the flaky texture and works especially well if they were refrigerated.

Oven: Place on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 6–8 minutes until warmed through.
