Did you know brats in the air fryer are perfectly cooked? As a child of German parents, I've been enjoying brats for over 20 years. In the last 4 years, I've discovered the simplicity of making brats in the air fryer. This method is a game-changer - it's quick, easy, and delivers delicious results every time. Juicy brats are on the table in just 15 minutes! Go ahead and try making air fryer brats!
This is a year-round method! Skip grilling and just make them in less time than it would take to heat up your oven. Some air fried sides that you might want to consider include this air frier cabbage. I didn't realize cabbage could be this delicious! Same with cauliflower made in the air fryer. Vegetables get a delicious flavor when cooked quickly with the high heat.
Some other meats to make in the air fryer include this easy rosemary chicken. It's so good and so easy! This quick marinated chicken (in the air fryer) is also quick and easy!

Why I now only use an air fryer for bratwurst
Air frying brats are a lifesaver on busy weeknights. Dinner in just 15 minutes? Yes, please! This is such a fast and easy method!
No more dry or unevenly cooked brats. The air fryer delivers juicy, perfectly cooked sausages every single time.
You won't sacrifice taste for convenience. The way they are so consistently cooked (I love the texture of the casing), Air-fried brats are better than the way we used to prepare them.
Just skip the grill. There's no need to clean the grates, preheat the grill, or deal with coals. Made in an air fryer, you will be eating before you start actually cooking! Truth!!
Ingredients
A package of brats. They come in packages of 5 normally.
A package of brat buns.
I grew up with Dijon mustard and sauerkraut on mine.
Other optional sides/toppings/garnishes include German potato salad, roasted broccoli, raw onions, sliced pickles, sauteed onions and mushrooms, regular mustard, ketchup and any other traditional for family favorite BBQ sides.
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (it only takes a couple of minutes). Spray air fryer tray/basket with nonstick spray. Or, use air fryer specific parchment paper for less mess and easier cleanup.
Step 2
Air fry for roughly 12 minutes. I usually flip them at 6 minutes and watch closely during the last couple of minutes. An internal temperature of 160°F is the optimal internal temperature for cooked bratwurst/sasages. They brown perfectly on all sides when flipped.
Step 3
Remove from air fryer (I use tongs) and allow to rest for 5 minutes before enjoying them.
Step 4
Serve with brat buns and favorite toppings and sides.
FAQs
Yes, you can. Reduce the cooking time to approximately 5 minutes and then see if they are done.
That is the USDA recommendation for products that have or may have pork in them for safe consumption.
Enjoy them with lower calorie sides and feel free to not use a roll.
Storage and Reheating
Place in a closed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. May be frozen if well wrapped for up to 6 months.
I reheat brats in the air fryer for 3-5 minutes. They can also be microwaved for about 30 seconds each. Be careful, if overheating in the microwave because they may burst.
