I'm the Pied Piper of Cows!

Published: Oct 22, 2015 · Modified: Mar 21, 2019 by momcrieff · This post may contain affiliate links · 3 Comments

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Chobani. All opinions are 100% mine.

We moved into our subdivision a few years ago.  It is located in kind of a rural area.   Our elementary school was about an 8 minute walk from our front door.  And, across the street from the school was a fully functioning dairy farm.   Sometimes, when the wind was blowing in the right direction, the air was, well, I told the kids the air was 'fresh country air'.  They didn't buy it.  They said it 'smells like poop'!  Well....I guess it did.  But fresh country air sounded so much nicer!

I'm the Pied Piper of Cows!

There was so much construction in our subdivision, that we actually had school buses for a couple of years.  All that heavy construction equipment arriving right when kids were walking to school didn't mix.  The bus stop was a 4 minute walk, so half way for us.   But, we were the first pick-up and the bus was often late in arriving at the school (because it did another route first, before scooping up our kids).  My kids didn't like being rushed and we liked walking so I walked my kids to school each morning.

All the other kids at the bus stop wanted to walk with us too!  So, I told them as long as I heard from their parents, they could walk with us.

Remember I told you about the farm across from the school?  Well, it was almost the whole length of our 4 minute walk from the bus stop to the school.  Each morning, the cows were at our corner, and, they walked along the fence on the other side of the road.  They kept pace with the dozen or so kids that I walked to school with.   I kind of knew it was happening but didn't realize how adorable and funny it was.   One day the principal came to greet me one day.

    Cows in a field

"You're the Pied Piper of cows!" he told me.   "Every morning the teachers and I watch you walk with the kids on one side of the road, and on the other, the cows walk with you.  It just makes our day!"

Every single time I passed those cows, I smiled!

The cow fences are down now, and there are only a handful of cows.  A new subdivision is going up.  I try not to be bothered by it.  Especially since my subdivision was also originally part of the farm and was the first of two subdivisions.  {SIGH}  I miss those cows!   Seriously, how many people have been a Pied Piper of cows??

Now we are solidly into another school year.  And with that comes lunches.  When I was asked by Chobani if I had a good back to school story to share, I said, "Yes!  And, it's dairy related!"

Let me share some of the wonderful products Chobani has for all those school lunches you need to make!  Here are what the packages look like.  AND, I always want to see what the actual product looks like.  So, I took the Chobani items out of the packages so you could see them.

Chobani Kids® and Chobani Tots® contain real fruits and vegetables, and nothing artificial.   Seriously, I didn't believe that there would be veggies in there.  But there are.  Huh!  They figured out that us Mom sneak in veggies whenever we can and they've done it for us!  There are only natural ingredients, no preservatives or artificial colors or flavors.  All contain less than 5% lactose, are gluten-free, and have live and active cultures and probiotics.

Here are specific details about the Chobani kids products:

    Chobani Tots® Pouches

TIP!   Freeze the yogurt tubes!  If they stay cold enough, the kids have a frozen treat.  If they haven't stayed frozen, they helped keep the rest of the lunch cold.

We say that the aroma of cow is the smell of money in the bank. We have to live with it and try to remember the good part that goes with it.

In re the Chobani, I did not know you could freeze these products without separating the yogurt. Now that I know better I can follow suit. Grandkids love it when Gramma makes the lunches because we always try to find cute little stuff to put in the sack or box.

What a cute story. It's so nice that you get the convenience of a subdivision but also country life in one spot.
