Why I love this recipe
This recipe style has been around for a long time for good reason. It's a quick way of making a comfort food type meat. Do you love gravy? This is how to cook your pork chops, and the bonus is that the gravy just simmers together without much work on your part.
One of the reasons I like this recipe is it's not made with chicken. We eat chicken a lot and this is a welcome change. I've even heard pork called the other white meat.
Who doesn't love ranch dressing? Need I say more? Well, I will! Think ranch dressing gravy, on mashed potatoes. Yum!
Ingredients
Cream of Chicken Soup - I have my pantry stocked with this soup because I buy it on sale. In my house, the purpose of this soup is to help make a crock pot gravy. If you are watching your salt intake or don't want this dish to be as salty, buy the low-sodium version of this soup.
6 Pork Loin Chops - those are the ones that are boneless and look like they are ½ of a pork chop. You want the ones that are about ½ inch thick. To make selecting your pork loin chops easier, I weighed 6 chops and they weighed 1.35 pounds. The package also called them "boneless center cut".
POWDERED Ranch Dressing - This is the kind you buy in an envelope or a jar. It's the dry powdered kind, not the liquid bottle of salad dressing. I know someone who used the salad dressing bottle and it did NOT seem to work as well flavor-wise.
Years ago, all these types of recipes used onion soup mix. Now the flavor preference has shifted to ranch flavor.
Sodium Tip - This recipe has a high sodium level and that's one of the reason it is so popular with younger family members. The salt level can easily be reduced by using soup with less sodium and using less Ranch Dressing (I've used ½ the recommended amount and the recipe is still flavorful).
Instructions
Step 1
I put a small amount of the ranch dressing mix directly onto the pork chops then put the pork chops flat onto the bottom of the slowcooker.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, mix both cans of creamed soup and theremaining ranch dressing mix. Pour into crock pot evenly covering the pork chops.
Step 3
Cover with the lid. The pork chops are cooked through at 3 ½ hours on low or 6 hours on high. If the pork chops are thicker, you may need to add ½ an hour (cut into one to see if it's cooked through).
Serving Suggestions
These ranch gravy smothered pork chops taste great with mashed potatoes. It's a great use of the gravy!
I also add a bright vegetable like steamed broccoli or green beans. Carrots also add a beautiful splash of color.
I would recommend adding some optional chopped herbs on top to add some color to the pork chops. Were always taught to have a colorful plate back in what was known as Family Studies class in high school. Yes, that was many years ago! Parsley is the common herb used to dress a plate. However, I use what is in my fridge or in my garden. Chives look pretty. I used green onions today because that's what I had handy!
Storage
These pork chops with the gravy can be stored in the fridge for 3 days in a sealed container. If freezing, make sure the pork chops are cool (at least to room temperature) and the air is removed to avoid freezer burn. I tend to freeze these in freezer bags (so I can squeeze the air out prior to fully closing).
FAQs
Scroll up to the "Sodium Tip" box to see how you can reduce the salt for this recipe. Please note that the nutrition amounts are a guideline and show the sodium content with the recipe made as stated.
I often cook 8 since many packages come in 4's. That fits perfectly in my crock pot.
If doing that, I would recommend a smaller (rather than full sized) crock pot. Then you can also halve the soup and ranch dressing mix. My slow cooker is a 6 quart one (usually oval). I would suggest perhaps a 4 quart (usually round) may be more appropriate if halving the recipe.
