If you’ve ever made Rice Krispies treats straight from the box, you already know how dependable they are. This version keeps that familiar chocolate base but adds a quick chocolate drizzle and sprinkles on top, making them feel just a little more special.

They’re kid-friendly, perfect for parties, and also ideal for those afternoons when you just need a little chocolate pick-me-up with your coffee. Minimal effort, maximum payoff.

    Why I Love This Recipe

This recipe starts with the classic Rice Krispies treats everyone already trusts. We use the chocolate Rice Krispies (called Cocoa Krispies) and add an easy chocolate drizzle.

The chocolate drizzle uses store-bought frosting, which makes it fast and stress-free. No one will know how easy it was to do!

They look bakery-style with minimal additional work.

They’re perfect for kids, but still hit the spot when adults want something chocolatey in the afternoon.

They work for Valentine’s Day, bake sales, potlucks, or casual get-togethers year-round.

    Ingredients

I always forget how easy this is to make and how few ingredients there are!

Butter – Used to coat the pan and melt the marshmallows.
Mini marshmallows – 10 oz bag.
Chocolate Rice Krispies cereal – 6 cups.

    Optional Ingredients to decorate

Chocolate frosting – Any store-bought brand works, used for drizzling.
Chocolate sprinkles – Optional, but they add texture and make the treats look finished.

Chocolate sprinkles and chocolate frosting from the grocery store - for elevating the chocolate rice krispie treats.

    Step 4
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Using a buttered spatula or lightly greased hands, gently press the mixture into an even layer. Do not press too firmly, or the treats will be dense.

    Step 5
Let the treats cool for about 10–15 minutes so the surface sets slightly.

    Step 6
Place the chocolate frosting in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 10–15 second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.

    Step 7
Transfer the melted frosting to a zip-top bag. Snip a small corner and drizzle the chocolate evenly over the treats.
Immediately sprinkle chocolate sprinkles over the drizzle before it sets.

    FAQs

Can I skip the chocolate drizzle?

Yes. The base treats are great on their own, but the drizzle adds a fun, bakery-style finish

Can I make these ahead of time?

Absolutely. These are perfect for making a day ahead for parties or events.

Do I have to use chocolate sprinkles?

No. You can leave them off or swap in Valentine’s sprinkles, heart-shaped sprinkles, or even mini chocolate chips. Or don't sprinkle anything!
