    Wonderful walkways.

I want to walk on my walkways! In my bare feet. And feel the warmth on my feet.

I can't stop thinking about them.  I have ideas.  I want to do some fun plantings to soften the hard stone.  But I can't yet.  It's March 9th and they are still snow covered.  Very snow covered.  I won't show you that because it's too depressing for me.

A couple of years ago, we added a stone walkway which goes from our driveway around to our backyard.   Our first attempt looked good but wasn't so comfortable on the feet.

We originally used stone as the filler between the flat rocks.  Let me tell you it wasn't fun when you run barefoot and land on one of those rocks.   We ended up changing the stone filler to grass.  Am I ever glad we did!

It didn't even take long for the grass to grow in.  We did have to spend a few weeks being very careful not to walk on the freshly seeded grass.  But, that wasn't hard since we had the walkway stones to tread on.  This walkway is much more comfortable on the feet and I LOVE the look.  Kind of a country cottage walkway.

Our walkway is now a welcoming guide to everyone from the driveway at the side of our house to our deck.   I am so glad we gave up on the stones between the rocks and went with grass!

We had some extra walkway stones so used them in a very practical way.

It's so much nicer walking on these walkway rocks rather than walking on the mulch in bare feet.  Forgive the weed that is peeking out at the bottom of the picture.  I swear they pop up overnight.

As I was looking through my pictures, I found some pictures of some friends' walkways.  Although cement, they have been softened by plantings.  I can't wait for the day when we have flowers again to enjoy.

Don't you just absolutely love the impatiens?  And yearn for them?  Soooooon!!

    walkways

My friend Amy's walkway.  She has a magical green thumb.  Her biggest problem is her plants always grow too well and she has to thin them.  Ummm, I don't have that problem!

I do need to share with you one of my favorite front paths.  It's in front of a Jo's classical colonial not too far from my house.   Isn't it lovely!  Another green thumb gardener!

Here is the same walkway going the other direction.

Oh how I miss seeing all the flowers and the plantings outside.  It's just that endless white snow out my window.  But soon, hopefully really soon we will be able to play in the dirt again.

Let me show you one more path.  One of my favorites.  It doesn't get any maintenance at all and mother nature takes care of it.

    walkways

{sigh} Soon, we will see our walkways and paths again.  Keep your fingers crossed for the snow to disappear really quickly!

I have enjoyed seeing your container and path photos on this hot afternoon in Texas! I'm trying to cool off enough to go back out now that I am so inspired! Thank you for sharing...

Thank you! I am not a fan of the heat so I wouldn't survive living in Texas. Mind you, I'm in Wisconsin and the winters never end! I try to squeeze in as much gardening in our few summer months as I can.
