Large 12 inch Dutch oven for peach cobbler (about 7–9 quarts) or 9 x 13 baking dish. Using a smaller pot can change the texture of the topping.
Ingredients
1large cansliced peaches
1stickbutter½ cup
1boxyellow cake mix
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a large dutch oven to prevent sticking.
Add the peaches to the bottom of the dutch oven and spread them into an even layer.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the peaches without stirring. This layering helps create the cobbler texture.
Place slices of butter evenly across the top of the cake mix.
Cover the dutch oven with the lid and bake for about 30 minutes. Remove the lid and continue baking for another 10 to 15 minutes until the top turns golden.
Allow the cobbler to rest for about 10 minutes before serving so the filling thickens slightly.
Notes
This recipe works best in a wide Dutch oven about 12 inches across. Smaller pots are deeper, which traps liquid and can cause the cake mix to bake into a thick layer. A 9 x 13 baking dish has a similar surface area and is a great alternative.Dutch ovens retain heat longer than baking dishes, so baking times may vary slightly depending on the thickness of your pot.Bake covered first to help the peaches heat through, then uncover near the end to allow the topping to brown. This recipe is oven tested but inspired by classic dutch oven cobbler methods that are also popular for outdoor cooking.
