Once fall comes around, I don't like buying more plants. I start just trying to use what I have.  Recycle, reuse and cheap plus available.

This is what I started with!  This was my summer planter and I was tired of it. Take out tired summer planting and swap for fall!

Summer planters become fall planters in stages. As a plant stops flowering or looks dry, replace it.  Swap out summer flowers for fall ones!

Keep any tall grasses you have in your summer planters.  I always try to plant purple fountain grass in the spring because it's such a great fall grass!

Keep your marigolds.  They can survive a little frost and they keep blooming in the fall. The bonus is,  they are the perfect fall color!

Add pumpkins.  Pumpkins come in all sizes and even many colors now. Pie pumpkins are inexpensive and some are even a nice size!

Plant some mums.  Often the little ones give a big pop of color!  Even the little inexpensive mums help fill in spots that need a little something.

Fill in bare spots with dried hydrangeas from your garden. If it's in your yard and free, its the best!

Autumn joy sedum can be cut and added to your fall planter too!  They will look great for a long time in your planter!
