I never heard of icebox cakes until I saw them on Pinterest the last few months. Then, I saw an Oreo Icebox Cake recipe that looked so good!
Like, impossible to be that easy, easy! I had everything at home to make it and it was going to take a whole 5 minutes from start to finish. Plus, no baking. It gets put into the fridge. Then you wait a few hours and then eat it!
The original recipe is from Cookiesandcups.com. And, I signed up to follow this blog after I read this recipe and a couple of others. She is so FUNNY!
I used homemade whipped cream. Because I bought a new mixer a few months ago and if I can use it I do! It makes making whipped cream so easy.
This recipe was put together using a 9 x 13 casserole dish.
Ingredients:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
6 TBS icing sugar (powdered sugar)
48 Oreos (hey, that’s how many is in the Oreos family pack!)
1 cup of milk to dip the oreos into.
Oreo cookie pieces or chocolate sauce (both optional – but it makes this look pretty!)
HELPFUL HINTS: Put your mixing bowl in the freezer (or fridge if you don’t have room). Also put the beater in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
Start by making the whipped cream.
Add heavy whipping cream, vanilla and icing sugar to cold mixing bowl. Mix until you have reached the stiff peak stage (not liquidy anymore).
Assemble your Oreo Icing Box Cake
Dip your Oreo in milk then place on bottom of your 9 x 13 dish. Don’t soak, just dip and place. It takes 24 cookies to line the bottom.
Spread 1/2 the whipped cream over the Oreos.
Dip the next 24 Oreo cookies and create another layer.
Spread the rest of the whipped cream over the cookie layer.
If you have extra Oreo cookies, chop up a couple and sprinkle on top as a garnish. Or, if you used all the Oreo cookies and don’t have another package, drizzle some chocolate spread on top.
You do need to refrigerate for at least 4 hours so that the cookies soften. And, become even more delicious!
Oh boy, this is good! And, really, including making the whipped cream takes about 5 minutes, if you have everything ready to go.
A perfect cold dessert that you didn’t have to bake. This would be an awesome dessert to have your kids make! You really can’t go wrong (unless you eat the cookies).
