Yes, I looked around my family room one day and thought something isn’t right. Something is making this room look a little darker than it should and not as airy and inviting as I’d like. I just felt I needed to do some freshening up in the family room. Perhaps a little too much time on Pinterest? Couldn’t put my finger on it right away then it came to me. I really, really didn’t like my valances anymore. I loved the way my mantle looked. It was cheery, full of color and a reflection of me. My wonderful neighbor, Amy, helped me put it together a year ago. I had it carefully packed away for the winter and brought it out and put it up on my mantle again a couple of months ago.
It cheers me up every time I look at it!
But, looking at the bigger picture, here is what I saw:
The valances seemed to darken the room and the mood within the room. I searched online and found a very flowery pattern that I thought would look great in my family room. But…..I wasn’t sure. So I called my trusted friend over to look. In the nicest possible way, she suggested it really wasn’t the best pattern. Then she gave me an alternative pattern, complete with a link to the Etsy website. The bonus was that it was within the budget I had set for myself (three window valances for under $100).
Here’s what she suggested, I bought and totally LOVE! Anyone who has visited has stopped to not only compliment them, but to examine how well they are made and how they really add to the room.
Here is a closer look at how it ties in so perfectly with my mantle:

Sometimes we need a little help from our friends! Thank you Amy! This update really freshened up my family room, and makes me happy. What more could you want for less than $100! Hmmmm, won’t they look great at Christmas too?
Enjoy your summer everyone!
