Christmas in My Living Room - The Reality

Published: Dec 8, 2015 · Modified: May 6, 2022 by momcrieff · This post may contain affiliate links · 4 Comments

    Hi Everyone!

Thanks for dropping by!  I'm sure you have seen a ton of perfectly decorated homes and trees.  Today, I had planned to show you Christmas in My Living Room.  Sorry, I've tried but I have a challenge.  He's right here!

Raji my black cat under the Christmas tree this to Pinterest

That's Raji!  We love him.  A lot.  But, he can be a really big stinker butt.  All 17 pounds of him.  Oh yeah, I'm supposed to make an appointment at the vet for his physical and I know I'm going to get lectured about his weight.   To save my mental sanity, I need to space my physical, where I get lectured about my weight, at least a couple of months from his weight lecture {SIGH}.  I get it dude, being hungry sucks!

    A hand made Christmas ornament

So, you are going to see some of my favorite ornaments.  Obviously one of my kids made this.  And, I still love it!

Why am I showing you ornaments?  Because my buddy Raji, has reshaped my tree.  When you have a 17 lb cat sitting on the bottom branches, they start lying flat on the floor.  And, they can't be bent back into shape : (.  No matter how hard you try.  And don't suggest I buy a new tree.  This is my new tree {sigh}.

My favorite glass ornament with red and green holly on it.

Hey!  My tree would look better if I had more of these ornaments above.   Since I have you looking at the picture, any idea where I can get more?  I bought 6 at Sam's Club about 5 years ago and wish I could get more.   Because I only have 4 now.  Why do I only have 4??

Ummm.  He's why.  Ornaments fall off the tree when he climbs to the top. It's kind of freaky when you walk by the tree and he's peeking out, looking you in the eye (and I'm standing up).

My black cat peeking out from the tree at eye level!

I can show you my coffee table Christmas vignette!  He hasn't eaten all the berries off it yet.  Wooohooo

I even love it even in the day!

But soon, the berries will be chewed up.  Welcome to my Christmas in my living room reality!

Oh, I do have a mantle.  And, my cat doesn't hang out up there!

I went with a simple theme.  Very natural, with garland and my mercury glass Christmas pieces.

And my red poinsettia wreath.  I LOVE red poinsettias.  I would really enjoy having lots of these plants in my home at Christmas.  But, I can't have real, live ones anymore.   I'm sure you can all figure out why!

Good thing we love him so much.  All of him!  Funny story.  We got him as a stray.  And, the vet had us cut down his food, and cut down his food. But he kept getting bigger and bigger.   Then one time I must have been quieter than normal when I came home. There he was butt side up in our garbage!  Enjoying a feast of dinner plate scrapings.

    More Christmas ornaments, anyone?

    Love ya Raj!

Here are the other bloggers who have done Christmas posts.  They probably have skinny cats.

      Hi Imarancher!
I just saw this message! So sorry I didn't reply earlier. My Raj has his physical today and I'm so hoping he lost a pound : ). He is a scavenger but is the most loving cat. He knows he has it good and so do we : ).
We did have to take the tree down before Christmas. Too stressful on me and damaging on the tree with him climbing in it all the time. He's our stinker kitty and we love him!

Haha. Great Christmas post! Our pets do make the holidays a little more challenging sometimes, but yours it's a cutie. My 5 pound Yorkie took out my whole Christmas tree when I was a poor grad student and couldn't afford to replace the ornaments. (I'm a fellow blogger on the tour on Friday.)

I have five and one looks just like Raj. They all spent their first year inside the Christmas Tree but I have never had them bother with it again. Is your tree real or fake? Not that I have seen that matter, either way my cats spend one year wrecking them and ignore them thereafter. As for the trash can eating, all previousy feral cats will continue to search for food and eat it. They will also be very sneaky to keep you from observing them. But tell your vet to check his blood sugar to make sure nothing else is going on. By the way, some of my fattest cats are never seen eating. No, I don't want to think about what they might be eating to stay fat.
