My favorite season of the year is autumn. Fall, to me, is like the finale of a fireworks performance. Nature is at it’s most beautiful and the weather is finally cooler and less humid. Perfect for me, born and raised in the north and not a lover of hot weather! Many of my friends find it strange that I don’t love the heat. Not for me, thanks!
The change of seasons always makes me aware that it’s time to re-evaluate healthy food choices and activities for the upcoming season. As much as I Iove exercising outdoors, winter makes that challenging so a ‘Plan B’, with some inside exercise options, needs to be in place. And for meals, I do like heartier meals in the winter but, they need to be well planned out so they are both flavorful and lighter in calories. Seasons changing signify the passage of time. It’s through healthy choices, in many areas of our lives, that we will have longer, healthier lives.
It’s the time of year where I enjoy every minute possible outside. Where there is instant gratification cleaning up my landscaping. Where the flowerbeds are cleaned up, for the upcoming winter so that they will be ready to begin new growth again in the coming spring. Exercise comprises of digging, cutting, pulling and removing the growth of the summer which is now designated as yard waste. Sometimes it does sadden me to remove blossoms that are still beautiful. But, I’ve ended up having to do that in hail and freezing weather because I’ve delayed too long.
I couldn’t help myself and saved a few of my hydrangeas. These are already dried. Yes, I am recycling my yard waste hydrangeas into dried hydrangeas that will somehow find a place in my home. Did you see which container I used?
It’s in the fall that the boring burning bush is at it’s most beautiful. It’s such a common shrub but I really do love it’s beautiful color in the fall.
Fall cleanup is hard! But, as I mentioned earlier, it’s one of those jobs where you do see your accomplishments right away. But, it truly is work! As the mother of two teenaged boys, I do appreciate that Tom’s of Maine has a Men’s Naturally Dry North Woods™ antiperspirant. Trust me when I tell you the fresh, clean, outdoorsy scent is really appreciated!
Garden beds look neat and clean after everything is cut down, weeds are pulled and shrubs are trimmed. Those are nights that we sleep well due to well-earned exhaustion.
I think as a gardener, I naturally gravitate towards products that are more natural and have chemicals. Isn’t that why we often grow our own veggies and flowers?
When shoppingfor my family, I like products Free of artificial dyes, fragrances, flavors and preservatives. Tom’s of Maine products are good for the planet and are Made to Matter® – handpicked by Target. Of course, you’ve heard of Tom’s of Maine, haven’t you? And some of their products are exclusively at Target. Actually, as I was looking to purchase antiperspirant for my sons, I noticed they have a product that I wish I would have had been able to purchase a few years ago. It’s called, Wicked Cool!™ deodorant. It’s a natural deodorant made for boys and girls. No aluminum, parabens and artificial fragrances in Wicked Cool! Perfect for those young, still growing bodies!
And, another great product is the Luminous White toothpaste. Safe for enamel and gluten and paraben free.
Enjoy this wonderful time of year. And, the beautiful nature around you. Sadly, this season is too short and soon, winter will come. And, living in a northern state, winter starts too early and lasts too long. So, once again, in a few minutes, I’m heading outdoors. I have a need to enjoy the crisp cold air and the wonderful colors of nature. Hope you have an opportunity to do that today also!
